Melbourne Cup on Wheels 2004

Last updated 27,February,2005

.

The Melbourne Cup on Wheels is a 'wheelrace' - where riders are given headstarts (or handicaps) according to their ability. There are several rounds throughout the evening and then a final, which sees the various heat winners lined up around the track at the start according to their given headstart / handicap. There are usually a couple of riders on 'scratch' - required to complete the whole 8 laps race, they work to catch and overtake the riders ahead of them in order to take vicotry honours.

The Melbourne Cup on Wheels takes place at the Vodafone Arena - home to the 2004 World Track Championships. The Vodafone is a 250m, fast, wooden track with steep straights and very steep bends.
